Robert Heinlein, ‘Double Star’
This is the first Heinlein book I have read, and his style feels a little strange to me. He seems to be writing like an adventure writer (which admittedly the first SF stories were) rather than a SF voice, but it seems that Heinlein is a man of his times, much like Philip K Dick was. Anyhew, the story revolves around an actor taking on the role of an ill politician to avoid a political nightmare, who slowly becomes the man himself and ends up living his life in character as the original dies. A bit of a hokey plot really, but enjoyable, interesting as an exercise in empathy, and with an interesting if slightly silly take upon martians.
